We don't need a non-free scan of a newspaper to make the point that a given subject was covered in one of the newspaper's edition. Damiens.rf 06:35, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep To show that article's subject's demise was of comparable newsworthiness to atomic bombing of Hiroshima, per fair use notice & text about picture in article. walk victor falk talk 18:06, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I also find it striking that Bong's death is right up there with the nuclear attacks. --Yaush (talk) 18:33, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Per Yaush. I knew it was the same day, but had no idea it got almost equal play. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 21:46, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment: check if it might be {{PD-no-renew}} (which is quite likely); otherwise delete because its presence is not needed. Nothing in there that couldn't be covered by text alone (including judicious use of quotation from the headlines etc.) Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:14, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep and retag as {{PD-US-not-renewed}}. Per this site (which is reliable at least when I have previously double-checked its dates for NYTimes and LATimes) any LATimes published before January 5, 1958 is now public domain. Also upload at full available resolution if there's not a problem with copyrights from the AP or similar for the photos/stories. VernoWhitney (talk) 03:39, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete as long as this image remains fair use per WP:NFCC#8. SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:33, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free old photograph of some ships at anchor. Not a particular noteworthy photograph (let alone iconic), not a particularly noteworthy event; too small to convey any particularly important factual information. Fails NFCC#8 Fut.Perf. ☼ 15:04, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:RVNS Ly Thuong Kiet.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Canpark (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Non-free historic photograph of a 1970s warship. Used in the article about a war in which it took part, but doesn't convey any particularly crucial piece of information about it (beyond what a verbal description of the type of warship could), and is not the object of specific discussion. Fails NFCC#8 Fut.Perf. ☼ 15:07, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I have added further information about the ship's history, to convey why the image is relevant to the article. Also, I have a {Non-free historic image} tag. I now hope the decision to delete the image will be reconsidered.Canpark (talk) 10:11, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment - I cant see any evidence that the image was taken during the East Sea Campaign or shows anything relevant to the article. Not sure it can be historical either if we dont known when or where it was taken. But I am sure a case could be made for it to be included with a rationale at RVNS Ly Thuong Kiet (HQ-16). MilborneOne (talk) 18:24, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Indeed. That was something I did not thought of, so I have rewritten a sentence in the photograph's description to justify its inclusion on the article about the RVNS Ly Thuong Kiet (HQ-16). Hopefully, it can be can be considered 'historical' because it was obviously taken during the conflict.Canpark (talk) 14:23, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - Until 1971 it was a US vessel and we have free images from (at least) the 1940s and 1960s. I can't see any compelling reason that we need an image of it at a particular time. I can't see that the ship was extensively changed so the only major difference would be the paintwork. Replaceable with a free image without significantly impairing reader's understanding - Peripitus (Talk) 23:23, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

non-free picture of a particular, uncommon moment in a horse race. While this event may in fact be unique and important in the context of this competition, the image is not needed to understand it.
